melanie lee nagel born on august 30, 1945, in vallejo, california. after graduating, in 1963, el camino fundamental high school in sacramento, california, nagel attended reed college in portland, oregon. dropped out before graduating , joined hippie movement. after boyfriend, sam speerstra, got position forest service, lived him in remote lookout tower near bend, oregon, job spot forest fires , report them national park service.
