New Sweden Colonial history of New Jersey



new sweden, founded in 1638, rose height under governor johan björnsson printz (1643–1653). led printz, settlement extended far north fort christina (on both sides of delaware river). helped improve military , commercial status of colony constructing fort nya elfsborg, near salem, on east side of delaware river. swedesboro , bridgeport founded part of colony. in 1655, dutch asserted control on territory.
