classes operate on block scheduling. each day divided 4 class periods , lunch/activity period. classes run 85 minutes each. lunch/activity period placed between second , third periods, , lasts approximately 1 hour. students eat lunch , participate in school clubs during time period.


the school year divided 2 semesters. students attend 5 credit class 5 times week 1 semester. classes worth 2.5 credits attended every day half semester , swapped class halfway through semester; classes worth 2.5 credits given every other day. each course taught @ honors level if course name not denoted designation. students pass every class acquire 40 credits each school year. students must have 160 credits in order graduate, though state of new jersey requires 120 credits graduate high school.


chs requires students explore many options during first 2 years @ school. language offered @ chs spanish, , students must take @ least 3 courses of language. students required take 4 years of math, english , science. gym , health classes required every year, seniors must fulfill class requirements outside of school setting.

pre-calculus or calculus
advanced physics, biology, or forensics
mentorship (see below)
fitness/health

also, seniors must take 3 electives either junior year or following:



advanced digital video (electronic field production)
advanced tv/radio (advanced studio production)
advanced digital imaging
advanced graphic design
e-commerce
advanced web design
statistics
spanish iv or v
advanced journalism
history through film

seniors required fulfill mentorship. one-quarter of school year, students spend periods 3 , 4 @ mentorship site of choice. mentorship sites in past have included asbury park press, lab volt, brookdale television, architectural firms, graphic design firms, radio stations, , schools. students have freedom choosing mentored.
