the silkwood inn, known silkwood tavern half way house (due location approximately halfway between shawneetown , kaskaskia), built barzilla (basil) silkwood, upon arrival illinois kentucky, serving inn , tavern along old shawneetown - kaskaskia trail connected communities in southern illinois during 1800s.
the trail led old shawneetown, illinois (37°41′54″n 88°8′13″w / 37.69833°n 88.13694°w / 37.69833; -88.13694 - located along ohio river), original state capital of illinois of kaskaskia, illinois (37°55′17″n 89°54′59″w / 37.92139°n 89.91639°w / 37.92139; -89.91639).
priscilla
while visiting plantation in georgia in 1830s, silkwood became acquainted several slaves. among them young girl named priscilla. when owner of plantation died, slaves sold , priscilla bought cherokee chief , taken live on reservation. when indians moved reservation in 1838 along trail of tears, passed through southern illinois on way indian territory. once again, silkwood s path intertwined priscilla s. silkwood in jonesboro, illinois business trip when indians moved through area. recognized priscilla, , bought $1,000 in gold. priscilla taken inn, accepted member of family. died in 1892 , buried beside silkwoods in reid-kirkpatrick cemetery, 2 miles northwest of inn.
hollyhocks
when priscilla came southern illinois, brought hollyhock seeds planted @ new home. hollyhocks have continued thrive in front of inn, , still known priscilla hollyhocks.

family home
the inn on time became family home of john & jean crowe.
around 1983, inn (then home crowe family) badly damaged fire, , demolished.
the crowe family, upon learning of deep historical significance of structure region, donated building mulkeytown area historical society.
