new south wales

born in coonamble, new south wales, cuffe made first-class debut state side, against queensland @ sydney on boxing day 1902. made 5 , 25 bat, , took single wicket of charles patrick. time cuffe played in first-class match outside england. (he did turn out worcestershire against glamorgan @ cardiff arms park in 1910, game did not have first-class status.)

cuffe came england, making worcestershire debut against oxford university @ parks in may 1903. not yet qualified appear in county championship, played against cambridge university , philadelphians season, scoring 91 against latter side. again turned out 3 times in 1904, playing once each against universities , appearing against touring south africans, claiming 5-58 in innings defeat of oxford.


for ten seasons 1905 1914, cuffe regular part of worcestershire side, , made career-best 145 against hampshire in first of years. on 3 occasions — 1906, 1908 , 1911 — passed 1,000 first-class runs in season, while in 1907 , 1911 obtained hundred wickets. double in 1911 consisted of 1,054 runs @ 25.70 (even though made no score greater 78) , 110 wickets @ 23.56. best bowling figures (9-38) achieved against yorkshire @ bradford in 1907, in above-mentioned minor game against glamorgan in 1910 returned extraordinary first-innings analysis of 8.1-4-5-9. in 1910, performed hat-trick against hampshire @ dean park, bournemouth.


in turned out last 3 years of first-class career, 1912 1914, bowling continued quite productive @ least 50 wickets in each summer. indeed, took 11-163 in match against gloucestershire late july 1914. batting, however, declined, , in 99 first-class innings made 3 half-centuries. cuffe s final first-class game came against sussex @ eastbourne in late august 1914. in two-day innings defeat scored 10 , did not bowl ball; career ended when absent hurt in second innings.


post first world war

cuffe did not reappear in first-class cricket after first world war.


after stints in lancashire league todmorden , lowerhouse cuffe retired playing.


umpiring career

cuffe stood umpire in 66 first-class matches between 1925 , 1927.


coaching career

he later took position coach @ repton school.
