the 5 euro note smallest @ 120 62 millimetres (4.7 in × 2.4 in) grey colour scheme. bank notes depict bridges, arches or doorways in different historical european style; 5 euro note shows classical era (up fifth century). although robert kalina s original designs intended show real monuments, political reasons bridge , art merely hypothetical examples of architectural era.

a glossy stripe, tilt note , glossy stripe showing value numeral , euro symbol appear.
watermarks, appears when banknote against light.
raised printing, special methods of printing makes ink feel raised or thicker in main image, lettering , value numerals on front of banknotes. feel raised print, run finger on or scratch gently fingernail.
ultraviolet ink, under ultraviolet light, paper should not glow, fibres embedded in paper should appear, , should coloured red, blue , green, european union flag looks green , has orange stars, ecb president signature turns green, large stars , small circles on front glow , european map, bridge , value numeral on appear in yellow.

watermark: when note held under normal light source, portrait of europa , electrotype denomination appear on either side.
portrait hologram: when note tilted, silver-coloured holographic stripe reveals portrait of europa-the same 1 in watermark. stripe reveals window , value of banknote.
emerald number: when note tilted, number on note displays effect of light moves , down. number changes color emerald green deep blue.
raised printing: on front of note, there series of short raised lines on left , right edges. main edge, lettering , large value numeral feel thicker.
security thread: when note held against light, security thread appears dark line. euro symbol (€) , value of banknote can seen in tiny white lettering in thread.
microprint: tiny letters can read magnifying glass. letters should sharp, not blurred.
ultraviolet ink: parts of banknote shine when under uv or uv-c light. these stars in flag, small circles, large stars , several other areas on front. on back, quarter of circle in centre several other areas glow green. horizontal serial number , stripe appear in red.
infrared light: under infrared light, emerald number, right side of main image , silvery stripe visible on obverse of banknote, while on reverse, denomination , horizontal serial number visible.
