the divine services of ethiopian church celebrated in ge ez language. has been liturgical language of church @ least since arrival of 9 saints (abba pantelewon, abba gerima (isaac, or yeshaq), abba aftse, abba guba, abba alef, abba yem’ata, abba liqanos, , abba sehma), fled persecution byzantine emperor after council of chalcedon (451). septuagint greek version translated ge ez, later revisions show clear evidence of use of hebrew, syriac, , arabic sources. first translation modern vernacular done in 19th century man known abu rumi. later, haile selassie sponsored amharic translations of ge ez scriptures during reign, 1 before world war ii , 1 afterward. sermons today delivered in local language.
