north campus contiguous campus, built independently city on large plot of farm land—approximately 800 acres (3.2 km)—that university bought in 1952. newer central campus, , has more modern architecture, whereas central campus buildings classical or gothic in style. architect eero saarinen, based in birmingham, michigan, created 1 of master plans north campus , designed several of buildings in 1950s, including earl v. moore school of music building. north , central campuses each have unique bell towers reflect predominant architectural styles of surroundings. each of bell towers houses grand carillon. north campus tower called lurie tower. university of michigan s largest residence hall, bursley hall, located on north campus.
north campus houses college of engineering, school of music, theatre & dance, stamps school of art & design, taubman college of architecture , urban planning, , annex of school of information. campus served duderstadt center, houses art, architecture , engineering library. duderstadt center contains multiple computer labs, video editing studios, electronic music studios, audio studio, video studio, multimedia workspaces, , 3d virtual reality room. other libraries located on north campus include gerald r. ford presidential library , bentley historical library.
