goodyear lived in palouse, washington in part of career. in 1889, purchased palouse news partners p. h. winton , judge norman buck. goodyear later became newspaper s sole owner. owned newspaper , served publisher until 1898. in november 1894, nominated grover cleveland postmaster @ palouse, , served in position during second cleveland administration.
goodyear later moved colfax, washington. in 1898, purchased colfax commoner , became publisher , editor. while owned goodyear, commoner became known leading democratic newspaper of eastern washington . active in democratic party politics in colfax. when william jennings bryan visited area during 1900 presidential campaign, goodyear introduced him man whom trusts hate, people love. goodyear nominated party s candidate united states congress in 1902 declined nomination. in 1908, ran congress, , democratic candidate in washington s 3rd congressional district included entire eastern portion of state. goodyear defeated miles poindexter republicans swept 1908 elections throughout state.
in 1901, goodyear leased plant of pacific farmer s union, official publication of farmers union, , pullman herald , managed papers colfax commoner time. goodyear sold commoner in 1911 , moved pullman, purchased plant of pullman herald. publisher of pullman herald until august 1935.
in 1914, goodyear appointed receiver united states land office in walla walla, washington. in 1918, became chairman of pullman branch of home service section of red cross, providing relief homes of soldiers , sailors. during world war i, publicity director liberty loan drives in whitman county.
goodyear outspoken on public policy matters , advocate of, among other things, direct primary system , prohibition @ both state , national level.
