the emergency management institute (emi) serves national focal point development , delivery of emergency management training enhance capabilities of state, territorial, local, , tribal government officials; volunteer organizations; fema s disaster workforce; other federal agencies; , public , private sectors minimize impact of disasters , emergencies on american public. emi curricula structured meet needs of diverse audience emphasis on separate organizations working in all-hazards emergencies save lives , protect property. particular emphasis placed on governing doctrine such national response framework (nrf), national incident management system (nims), , national preparedness guidelines. emi accredited international association continuing education , training (iacet) , american council on education (ace).


approximately 5,500 participants attend resident courses each year while 100,000 individuals participate in non-resident programs sponsored emi , conducted locally state emergency management agencies under cooperative agreements fema. 150,000 individuals participate in emi-supported exercises, , approximately 1,000 individuals participate in chemical stockpile emergency preparedness program (csepp).


the independent study program @ emi consists of free courses offered united states citizens in comprehensive emergency management techniques. course is-1 entitled emergency manager: orientation position , provides background information on fema , role of emergency managers in agency , volunteer organization coordination. emi independent study (is) program, web-based distance learning program open public, delivers extensive online training approximately 200 courses. has trained more 2.8 million individuals. emi web site receives 2.5 3 million visitors day.
