the city council of emmen approved construction of new zoo, wildlands, expected draw 1.3 million visitors annually. new zoo completed in march 2016 , part of plan revitalizing city center of emmen. visitors able walk new city plaza new zoo, 22 hectares (54 acres) additional 26 hectares (64 acres) expansion, , includes 40,000 square metres (430,000 sq ft) of interior space, including theater.
