the name valadares originates word vallado , means obstacle. may crasto de valadares fortification second period of iron age (450 b.c.). crastos on northwest of iberian peninsula, goes 5th century b.c. ad 5th century. in middle ages, valadares belonged monastery of grijó. during first half of 20th century, valadares enjoyed considerable development, being 1 of developed parishes of gaia, due existence of cerâmica de valadares, 1 important train station, sanatoriums, several schools , theatre (cine-teatro eduardo brazão).
