charles moore, president of university s athletic association, chose orange , white school colors on april 12, 1889. inspiration said have come orange , white daisies grew on hill. day there still orange , white flowers grown outside university center. although students confirmed colors @ special meeting in 1892, dissatisfaction caused colors dropped. no other acceptable colors agreed on, however, , original colors reinstated day later. university of tennessee s official colors ut orange (pantone 151), white, , smokey gray (pantone 426).
