the distinction between camera stocks , print stocks involves difference in recording process. when work print or edit master has been approved, original camera negative (ocn) assembled negative cutter using edited work print or edl (edit decision list) guide. series of answer prints made ocn. during answer print stage, corrections in film s density , color corrected (timed) filmmakers tastes. interpositive (ip) prints struck ocn, checked make sure same custom timed answer print, , each ip used make 1 or more dupe negative (dn) copies. release prints generated dn(s). recently, development of digital intermediate (di), has become possible edit, composite visual effects, , color grade image digitally @ full resolution , bit-depth. in workflow, answer print generated digitally , written out ip stage using laser film printer.


due specialized nature of exposure , higher degree of control afforded film lab equipment, these intermediate , release stocks specially designed solely these applications , not feasible camera shooting. because intermediates function maintain image information accurately across duplication, each manufacturer tends produce 1 or 2 different intermediate stocks. similarly, release print stocks available in 2 varieties: normal print or deluxe print (on more-costly print film kodak vision premiere) greater saturation , contrast.
