the ministry of education , culture of brazil (mec) proposed in 2009 universities should use enem, non-mandatory national exam, standard university entrance qualification test. new enem , known, composed of 180 multiple choice questions in 5 main areas (natural sciences, human sciences, math, portuguese , either english or spanish foreign language) , essay.


the proposal s main objective democratize access higher education, opportunities federal jobs, academic mobility , induce restructuring of curricula of high school.


the universities have autonomy choose whether or not want use exam, , if want to, can choose way used:



as single phase, unified system of selection, electronic , online;
as first phase;
combined university s test (using admit part of students or part of overall grade, along vestibular);
as single phase remaining chairs.
