career

mike redman started making music @ young age. while growing in schiedam, near rotterdam, taught himself how drum , made musical arrangements so-called tape-loop recording technique.

redrum

in nineties, redman started performing rapper , mc in nightclubs in rotterdam. performed across netherlands , europe mc, in drum-and-bass scene. in nineties redman started organizing club nights in rotterdam nightclubs , named them redrum parties . these parties staged upcoming local talents hardcore hiphop scene. redman formed rap group called redrum squad, consisting of rappers p-mode, unorthadox, turntablist eni-less , redman himself. redman , eni-less produced works of squad , released first tracks in 1999. in 2003, redrum squad released single enjoy , performed on dutch national television. group performed in national , international clubbling scene. redrum squad came end in 2005, , members started focusing on solo projects.

redman started independent record label redrum recordz in 1999. dutch artists several music genres (such hiphop, jungle, drum-and-bass , metal) attached label. moreover, redrum recordz has worked international artists such guru, public enemy, de la soul, ice-t , big daddy kane. in 2005 label reached dutch charts ik wil een meisje ( want girl ) spacekees & terilekst. in 2011, redrum recordz voted 1 of 100 leading record labels of belgium , netherlands gonzo circus magazine.

special effects

when teenager, redman experimented special make-up effects in videos. in 1994, dutch television station made item on making of redmans 30-minute horror movie ritual of damned. after seeing teenage redman, dutch dj paul elstak asked him direct video song don t leave me alone . single reached number 2 position in dutch charts , sold on 50,000 copies. dutch magazine voted don t leave me alone best music video of 1995. meanwhile, redman made special effects paul elstak s shows , various house parties. started working prop maker dutch television.

between 1996 , 2000 redman worked special effects , hair studio sjoerd didden. special make-up effects specialist , made effects motion pictures, television series , theatrical productions, including jackie chan s i. in 2000 redman left sjoerd didden. in years following, still worked special effects artist, notably on album cover singer anouk s record bitter or worse (three times platinum) in 2009.

documentaries , television

in 2001 mike redman made independent movie walkmen. full-length documentary tells story of hiphop culture in rotterdam between 1979 , 2001. in years following, redman made several music videos , directed children series dutch television.

in 2008 redman made second documentary named anagram. film explores work , vision of dutch artist diet wiegman. there no spoken word in film, soundtrack, composed redman. main focus of movie on visual art. documentary screened @ international film festival rotterdam in 2009. redman won 2 international awards anagram: ‘best art documentary 2009’ @ new york international independent film & video festival in los angeles , ‘best international director of short documentary 2010’ @ nyiifvf in new york.

in 2009 redman made documentary, nighttown, history of rotterdam nightclub same name. same year, made music television series rotterdam-based museum boijmans van beuningen.

in 2012 redman completed ambitious film project date, documentary sample: not sale. film explores relationship between various musical generations, focusing on sampling culture. due lack of funds, redman financed project himself, camerawork editing process. in film, redman interviews various internationally well-known artists, such chuck d, bootsy collins, george clinton, marly marl, krs-one. redman travelled between , europe approach them guerrilla style, on period of 7 years. redman wrote book experiences during making of film entitled sample diary.

other redrum, mike redman involved many more musical projects. in 2003 started working breakcore producer bong-ra. made several albums. redman collaborated neophyte, dj paul elstak , evil activities.

in 1992 redman started project deformer, collective several members of redrum squad , redman himself. deformer makes progressive electronic music. group produces demos , performs in international clubbing scene. cover maxi single meatcleaver banned in several countries; shows monkey s head composed of pornographic images. in 2006 deformer won prize best dance act , in 2008 released record american rap group public enemy. group performed @ pop festival lowlands in netherlands in 2008. in 2011, deformer developed audiovisual project called videopacolypz , released accompanying album. videopacolypz created minimal sounds of videopac computer of 1978.

in 2011 deformer formed co-operation bong-ra, named wormskull. band wormskull combines live music electronica.

art , other projects

redman involved in international art scene multidisciplinary artist (interdisciplinary art, painting, video art, sculpture). in 2012 took part in group exhibition faces collection of photos , videos. faces exhibited in new york , rotterdam.

in 2012 made track compilation cd of art project named songs of charcoal. used new alias; travel. designs , paints cd covers various artists.

redman has started producing music films , documentaries.
