the order hexanchiformes small , primitive order consisting of cow sharks , frilled sharks. these sharks have 1 dorsal fin, 6-7 gill slits, , no nictitating membrane on eyes. cow sharks large , stocky, while frilled sharks smaller , have eel-like bodies. oldest fossils order can dated mid-jurassic.

the order squaliformes large, ancient order of sharks. sharks order have 2 dorsal fins -usually spines-, no anal fin, , no nictitating membrane on eyes. squaliform sharks extremely variable in size , shape, , can found in marine habitats throughout world. hexanchiformes, members of squaliformes can found jurassic period.

the order squatiniformes small order of highly specialized , recognizable sharks called angel sharks. angel sharks have flattened bodies , broad pectoral fins, camouflaged coloration. these characteristics allow angel sharks blend in benthic environments. members of squatiniformes have been found since late jurassic period.

the order pristiophoriformes small order of unique sharks called sawsharks. sawsharks have long snout covered in teeth, between 5-6 gill slits, , no anal fin. have pair of barbels located halfway down snout. sawsharks confused sawfish, members of ray order pristiformes. sawsharks can discerned sawfish lateral gill slits, differ sawfish s ventral gill slits. these sharks can found in deep benthic environments. fossils of members of order have been found since late jurassic period.
