examples of types of logical fallacies
hasty generalization

definition: making assumptions whole group or range of cases based on sample inadequate (usually because atypical or small). stereotypes people ( frat boys drunkards, grad students nerdy, women don’t enjoy sports, etc.) common example of principle underlying hasty generalization.

missing point

definition: premises of argument support particular conclusion--but not conclusion arguer draws.

post hoc (false cause)

this fallacy gets name latin phrase post hoc, ergo propter hoc, translates after this, therefore because of this. definition: assuming because b comes after a, caused b. of course, 1 event cause 1 comes later—for example, if register class, , name later appears on roll, s true first event caused 1 came later. 2 events seem related in time aren t related cause , event. is, correlation isn t same thing causation.

slippery slope

definition: arguer claims sort of chain reaction, ending in dire consequence, take place, there s not enough evidence assumption.

the arguer asserts if take 1 step onto slippery slope, end sliding way bottom; or assumes can t stop halfway down hill.
