the can framis museum located in roc boronat street in 22@ district of barcelona, spain. opened public on april 27, 2009. museum situated in old textile factory dates backs 18th century , owned framis family. on years fell disuse, becoming monument industry of area. renovation directed architect jordi badia, founder , director of baas architecture studio. project consisted of restoring 2 current factory buildings , constructing new 1 link them, coinciding site of former warehouse which, whole, forms courtyard. square contains jaume plensa sculpture named dell arte (1990), donation vila casas foundation city of barcelona in 2012.

all interventions made in situ using concrete in line old structure. outside, lime mortar blends existing stonework merges exposed concrete of new buildings. façade becomes collage of textures, niches , coverings reflect different ups-and-downs of building throughout time. can framis museum located 1.5 metres (4.9 ft) below contemporary city roads, since factory built based on former agricultural sketches prior implementation of cerdà plan (1860). road surface covered ivy , other plants , museum surrounded white poplars , oaks. inside, museum divided in 36 rooms , there s elevator in each of 3 floors.

the block surrounded llacuna street, tànger street, roc boronat street , sancho de Ávila street , measures more 5,800 m (62,000 sq ft) (with capacity of 3,400 m (37,000 sq ft) indoor exhibition space).

the building has been awarded following prizes:

2011 - nominated european union prize contemporary architecture. given european commission , fundació mihes van der rohe.
