he born @ 31 union street, east stonehouse, plymouth on 9 january 1866, son of royal navy bandsman william eastman palmer had become journeyman photographer. name christian came boy s grandmother christian branton eastman lewis, married grandfather henry palmer, shoemaker, in okehampton, devon in 1826. fred c s father w.e. palmer married maria louisa eales on 13 march 1860 , living in james street, stoke damerel, in 1861 , ten years later @ 13 frances street @ st andrew s in plymouth. photographic artist , mean tinted or drew on prints glass negatives or somehow enhanced daguerreotypes, , influence brought profession of photography family. w.e. palmer became photographer in mid-1860s, , had twelve children including 7 sons, @ least 5 of whom trained photographers. business named william eastman palmer & sons, , frederick christian third son. brothers trained photographers william george, john eastman, ernest charles , henry reginald. in 1881 in east barnet fred c. 15 years old , had started photographic apprenticeship. in 1891 when frederick christian 25 years old, still living @ home , family @ hopetown villa, leicester road, east barnet. @ time father william eastman palmer still described journeyman photographer.

in 1894 frederick christian palmer married in parish of st george hanover square eleanor florence m. maltby, had been born in highbury in 1873. had 3 children: leslie reginald, born 1896; muriel audrey, born in 1902; , joyce selwyn, born in 1905. first 2 born in barnet, , third in herne bay. in 1901 frederick practising photographer , family living @ gresham cottage in plantagenet road in new barnet. in 1911 @ palmer s tower studio in herne bay; frederick again listed in census photographer , eleanor assisting in business. may possibly have been related fred t. palmer (fl.1890–1899), photographer of ramsgate , croydon.


palmer may have moved watford around 1936–1937 did not die there; daughter muriel audrey had married charles william raysbrook in 1925 in strood , had 3 children in watford. died on 14 march 1941, aged 75 years, of old age @ grey cottage, formerly prospect house, @ 1 prospect road, hungerford. death certificate gives occupation master photographer, retired. term, master, in context @ time implied had photographers working under him in studio, , did not refer specific qualification. son leslie reginald present @ death, not known whether grey cottage residence of either father or son.
