atlas life insurance company founded in tulsa in 1918. within 3 years had grown rapidly had begun constructing own high-rise office building. elaborate ceremony accompanied grand opening on november 22, 1922. company s logo incorporated figure of atlas, titan of ancient greek mythology, carrying world on back. statue representing on top of building facade. company remained in business @ location until sold in 1991.
