elst born flemish catholic family. of family members served christian missionaries. graduated in indology, sinology , philosophy @ catholic university of leuven. around time, elst became interested in flemish nationalism. between 1988 , 1992, elst @ banaras hindu university. in 1999, received ph.d. in asian studies leuven. doctoral dissertation on hindu revivalism published decolonizing hindu mind.


he editor of new right flemish nationalist journal teksten, kommentaren en studies 1992 1995, focusing on criticism of islam, various other conservative , flemish separatist publications such nucleus, t pallieterke, secessie, or neoconservative brussels journal , middle east forum.


elst, known support out of india theory related indo-aryan migration, has written multiculturalism, language-policy issues, ancient chinese philosophy , history, , comparative religion. elst became identified hindutva politics during 1990s, following support bharatiya janata party s position on ram janmabhoomi temple in ayodhya , in parallel bjp s rise prominence on indian national stage.
