during first restoration, competition coin-engraving perfection set on 2 august 1814, aimed redefine type of coins in use , henceforth redesign next monetary system. won contest on 6 older , more experienced medallists ( bertrand andrieu, nicolas guy antoine brenet, jean-pierre droz, nicolas marie gatteaux , pierre-joseph tiolier) was ; 9 december 1815 decree stated michaut s patterns should substitute older ones , new coins minted 1 january 1816.
