an automated storage , retrieval system (asrs) integral part of building , allows many years of collection development. designed , built daifuku of america @ north american headquarters in salt lake city, system enclosed in 56-foot-wide (17 m) 140-foot-long (43 m) , 80-foot-high (24 m) climate-controlled corner of library building. 3 aisles of shelves served 3 storage , retrieval machines (srms) can retrieve average of 875 volumes day. there space add fourth row of shelves when needed. barn (borrower’s automated retrieval network) named in reference utah state university’s status agricultural school.


all of merrill-cazier library’s bound journals, on 200,000 less used books, , of microform stored in barn. there 550,000 items room expand approximately 1.5 million items.
