williamson attended wake forest-rolesville high school in wake forest, north carolina. played school s baseball team pitcher, , rated best pitching prospect in state of north carolina. chose enroll @ wake forest university play college baseball wake forest demon deacons. redshirted freshman, , played wake forest outfielder. boston red sox chose williamson in 46th round of 2011 mlb draft, decided return wake forest senior year.


2012–14

in 2012 mlb draft, san francisco giants selected williamson in third round, 115th overall selection. signed giants, beginning professional career in rookie-level arizona league, hitting 2 home runs in 19 plate appearances. giants promoted williamson salem-keizer volcanoes of class a-short season northwest league, hit 7 home runs in 125 plate appearances.


in 2013, giants assigned williamson san jose giants of class a-advanced california league. hit 25 home runs san jose.


he invited first spring training in 2014. though giants wanted assign williamson richmond flying squirrels of class aa eastern league start 2014 season, elbow injury led them keep him in san jose, still play designated hitter. after beginning season .318 batting average , 3 home runs, williamson went on disabled list torn ulnar collateral ligament of elbow , had tommy john surgery, ending 2014 season. williamson go on recover surgery without complication.


2015

he began 2015 season richmond , giants promoted him sacramento river cats of class aaa pacific coast league in june. giants promoted williamson major leagues on september 16, 2015. made debut giants on september 23. made first major league start in right field on september 25, 2015, , got first major league hit off sonny gray of oakland athletics.


2016

williamson began 2016 season sacramento, , received promotion major leagues on april 15, sent minors week later. on june 2, williamson called after hunter pence suffered injury. on june 8, 2016, williamson hit first major league home run off david price of boston red sox, tie-breaking shot in bottom of eighth inning.


2017

during spring training, williamson in competition left field job, competing against other outfielders. suffered minor injury towards end of spring training, cause him miss opening day. williamson ping-ponged , forth between major leagues , triple-a throughout 2017 season , began make large contributions team near season s end, including 3 3 performance monstrous home run against clayton kershaw on september 24, 2017.
