the vccri established on 15 february 1994 , named victor chang cardiac research institute in honour of dr. victor chang, who, on 4 july 1991, fatally shot. chang passionately believed in ability research better lives of many more surgery ever could, reflected in dearth of hearts available transplantation. prime minister paul keating opened institute , delivered address.


on 27 february 1995, institute incorporated independent research facility hon. neville wran ac, qc chairman.


on 1 november 1995, diana, princess of wales opened institute in premises within garvan (now lowy packer) building.
