on february 14, 2016, @ njpw s new beginning in niigata event, bullet club s doc gallows , karl anderson unsuccessfully challenged g.b.h. (togi makabe , tomoaki honma) iwgp tag team championship. following match, gallows , anderson s stablemate tama tonga, entered ring challenge makabe , honma, stating partner new bullet club member. challenge accepted makabe , honma. on march 12, tonga revealed partner brother tevita, given ring name tanga loa tag team dubbed guerrillas of destiny (g.o.d.). brothers came team name, references feeling of fighting cause , belief destiny had brought them together. team s acronym stemmed alipate s ring name meaning god of war , tevita s ring name meaning family of god in polynesian islands.


loa made njpw debut on march 27, attacking togi makabe during match tonga. led first match promotion on april 1, bullet club quintet of loa, tonga, bad luck fale, kenny omega , yujiro takahashi defeated makabe, tomoaki honma, juice robinson, hiroshi tanahashi , michael elgin in ten-man elimination tag team match. on april 10 @ invasion attack 2016, g.o.d. defeated g.b.h. become new iwgp tag team champions. made first successful title defense on may 3 @ wrestling dontaku 2016, defeating g.b.h. in rematch. later month, g.o.d. took part in north american tour, co-promoted njpw , american ring of honor (roh) promotion. during war of worlds event on may 14, roh wrestler jay briscoe pinned loa win eight-man tag team match between team roh , bullet club , afterwards announced , brother mark coming njpw take iwgp tag team championship loa , tonga. on june 8, njpw officially announced win had earned briscoe brothers shot @ iwgp tag team championship. title match took place on june 19 @ dominion 6.19 in osaka-jo hall , saw briscoe brothers end g.o.d. s title reign , become new champions.


on september 22 @ destruction in hiroshima, after briscoe brothers had defended iwgp tag team championship against bullet club s young bucks (matt jackson , nick jackson), attacked g.o.d., demanded title rematch. led match on october 10 @ king of pro-wrestling, g.o.d. defeated briscoe brothers regain iwgp tag team championship. following match, g.o.d. , young bucks attacked briscoe brothers tomohiro ishii, tried save former champions. led directly g.o.d. s first title defense on november 5 @ power struggle, defeated ishii , yoshi-hashi. november 18 december 10, g.o.d. took part in 2016 world tag league. after winning block record of 6 wins , 1 loss, g.o.d. advanced finals of tournament, defeated g.b.h., setting title match between 2 teams. however, before match take place @ wrestle kingdom 11 in tokyo dome, g.o.d. s title belts stolen toru yano, resulted in him , tomohiro ishii being added match. on january 4, 2017, @ wrestle kingdom 11 in tokyo dome, g.o.d. lost iwgp tag team championship yano , ishii in three-way match. match became infamous excessive loud cursing in english tonga , loa. result of mother telling them needed stand out @ wrestlemania of new japan pro wrestling . on june 11 @ dominion 6.11 in osaka-jo hall, g.o.d. defeated war machine (hanson , raymond rowe) win iwgp tag team championship third time. lost title war machine in no disqualification match on july 1 @ g1 special in usa.


in september, guerrillas of destiny, war machine , killer elite squad (davey boy smith jr. , lance archer) booked in 3 three-way matches iwgp tag team championship. first 2 matches on september 10 @ destruction in fukushima , september 16 @ destruction in hiroshima won war machine, while third match, contested under tornado tag team match rules, on september 24 @ destruction in kobe won killer elite squad.
