History Nevada State Route 266

sr 266 began southernmost segment of state route 3, 1 of nevada s first 4 state highways designated creation of nevada department of highways in 1917. maps dating 1917 show sr 3 curving northward few miles east of lida on trek towards goldfield , points further north. eastern portion of present-day route constructed graded highway 1937, new alignment replacing unimproved northeast leg 1940. entire alignment paved 1960.
sr 3 officially eliminated state highway system part of mass renumbering of nevada s state routes. state route 266 assigned former alignment of sr 3 on july 1, 1976. resulting change in highway s number first seen on 1978–79 edition of official highway map.
