history
beginning

in first incarnation, katedra composed of 3 musicians: ričardas laginauskas on guitar, algimantas radavičius on bass, , marius giedrys on drums. later, former foje guitarist romas rainys , then-unknown vocalist povilas meškėla joined band. december 1986 official start of katedra.

mors ultima ratio , break up

in 1989 band finished recording first lp called mors ultima ratio (latin: death final accounting ). although, released year after recording, katedra s first vinyl album gained extreme popularity in lithuania. mors ultima ratio noticed edgar klusener metal hammer magazine. described katedra as: pure thrash metal act, strong both musically , technically. in fact formation superior in comparison 90 percent of similar western acts. evident how far music in lithuania made headway. katedra matadors in lithuania , maybe stand among hottest european thrash metal bands . gained popularity, opened doors concerts abroad. in 1991 katedra played @ baltic sea music festival in sweden. unfortunately, last gig povilas meškėla , romas rainys band. after festival left katedra.

downturn

the band seeking shift: ričardas took on vocalist position. band s output @ time included album natus in articulo mortis ; music became more severe; , ričardas s vocal entry of katedra sounds standard clichés. trio played many concerts , albums played on lithuanian radio stations.

later, , time, concert activity stopped. although trio continued build , perform together, group s name forgotten. new generation, , new names appeared on metal stage. in february 2001, band invited play acoustic concert on lithuanian national television. group relied on own feet—and played live.

revival

from 2003 band helped keyboardist naglis patamsis. musicians tried experiment more. in autumn of 2003, longtime band member marius giedrys left katedra. replaced new drummer, domas dėdinas (who has played in bands such inquest, undertaker, dahmer, mezopsychya , herosgamos).

after successful appearance @ lithuania s largest rock festival nights of rock 2004 in plateliai, managers found katedra , booked band few concert programs, have been shown success in lithuanian club music scenes, , in several foreign festivals.

in 2005 summer festival nights of rock 2005 , katedra presented retrospective of old , new songs string duo gleb pyšniak (cello) , kristina baltrušaitytė (viola).

in august 2004, band announced third album (and first album on cd format) iii . presented in 2006 nights of rock .

2006 band bassist algis radavičius replaced gediminas jurgaitis (previously, had played in band hersh tu ?

at end of 2007, domas dėdinas replaced salvijus Žeimys (ex ossuary , spellbound , green bridge band , others), performs bands skylė , atalyja , exlibris .

in september 2008, group signed contract atra musica fourth album, ugnikalnis (lithuanian: volcano)

on november 1, 2008, band s fourth album, ugnikalnis , saw light of day.

in end of 2010 gediminas jurgaitis left band. bass players place taken rimantas budriūnas.
