water both, moragahakanda , kalu ganga reservoirs, used support agricultural needs area of @ least 81,422 ha (814.2 km). increase rice production 81% or 109,000 t (240,000,000 lb), amounting estimated monetary benefit of us$1.67 million, annually.

inland fishing

the reservoirs create source of inland fishing, generating approximately 4,700 t (10,400,000 lb) or monetary equivalent of us$1.67 million, annually.

water supply

along reservoir of kalu ganga dam, increase of 64,000,000 m (2.3×10 cu ft) of potable , industrial water supply ensured 2032, regions including matale, anuradhapura, trincomalee, , polonnaruwa.

power generation

water moragahakanda reservoir used power 25-megawatt moragahakanda hydroelectric power station, under construction. substitution of hydropower traditional fossil fuel power generation estimated save us$ 2.49 billion annually.

construction of power station costs us$382 million, irr of 22%.
