according gahadavala inscriptions, chandradeva son of mahichandra (alias mahitala or mahiyala), , grandson of yashovigraha.


the gahadavala inscrpitions give titles , name of chandradeva parama-bhattaraka maharajadhiraja parameshvara parama-maheshvara shriman chandra-deva . portray chandradeva saviour of earth (that is, region ruled). 1104 ce bashai (basahi) inscription states chandradeva saved distressed earth, after death of bhoja , destruction of karna s fame. 1109 rahin (or rahan) inscription states chandradeva born after destruction of solar , lunar kshatriya dynasties, when voice of vedas had disappeared. these descriptions suggest region suffered chaos during interregnum following deaths of bhoja (r. c. 1010-1055 ce) , karna (r. c. 1038-1080 ce), result of turushka (ghaznavid) invasions.


in these troubled times, chandradeva established new government, , brought peace region. 1093 ce chandrawati inscription states chandradeva s dynasty captured kanyakubja, after destruction of descendants of gurjara-pratihara king devapala. in 1090 ce chandrawati inscription, chandradeva assumes imperial title parama-bhattaraka maharajadhiraja parameshvara, indicates had become sovereign time.
