student activities

the selinsgrove area school district offers wide variety of activities, clubs , extensive sports. eligibility participate determined school board policy. district permits club sports on limited basis. piaa mandates student athletes must passing @ least 4 full-credit subjects participate in sports.


by pennsylvania law, k-12 students in district, including attend private nonpublic school, cyber charter school, charter school , homeschooled, eligible participate in extracurricular programs including athletics. must meet same eligibility rules students enrolled in district s schools.


according pa child abuse recognition , reporting act 126 of 2014, volunteer coaches , assist in student activities, must have criminal background checks. school district employees, must attend anti child abuse training once every 3 years.


clubs , organizations

selinsgrove s student life programs number in twenties , include both national , local programs such french club, technology student association, forensics (of national forensic league), chess club, ffa, student government, german club, key club, sadd club, spanish club, , web heads. students school have been notably successful in participating in pennsylvania history day , pennsylvania mock trial competition.


theater

students can elect participate on-stage in selinsgrove s fall play , spring musical. notable productions in recent years include little shop of horrors , annie gun , rodgers , hammerstein s cinderella, jesus christ superstar , footloose , man came dinner , jekyll , hyde , , copacabana .


music , performance

the school s music program offers both band instrumental , voice training under co-curricular policy. co-curricular applies programs sponsored or approved board , conducted both during regular school day part of approved curriculum , partly after regular school day through approved performances , demonstrations.


band

the selinsgrove area high school marching band supports community playing @ local events annual memorial day ceremony , market street festival. selinsgrove s band performs each week @ school s football games; perform in concert form @ least once per semester. band has played @ canadian football games , marched in several disney world holiday parades.


chorus

the honors chorus has performed @ carnegie hall , @ dedication of national world war ii memorial in washington, dc representative of pennsylvania. 2005-2006 chorus premiered matthew harris piece, oceanic eyes , 2009-2010 choir performed magnificat john rutter, under direction of choral director mrs. katherine a. bartol.


sports

coaches receive compensation outlined in teachers union contract. when athletic competition exceeds regular season, additional compensation paid. sports programs through pennsylvania heartland athletic conference , pennsylvania interscholastic athletic association. pennsylvania heartland athletic conference voluntary association of 25 piaa high schools within central pennsylvania region.


since 2000, district has spent millions add high school sports facilities. in $2.5 project, high school stadium received major renovation including addition of plastic grass , new track. soccer field , field hockey field developed in lawn areas in front of high school building. small portion of development paid team booster clubs. new gymnasium built part of adjacent elementary school, provide space additional basketball programs. students pay small - $35 per student activity fee allows participation in sports programs , free admission district sports events.


in 2008, selinsgrove school board added first club sport - lacrosse both boys , girls, stipulating teams not receive taxpayer funded support. permitted use school s name in order participate in piaa events.


according pennsylvania’s safety in youth sports act, sports coaches, paid , volunteer, required annually complete concussion management certification training , present certification before coaching.
