quakers first settled in monmouth county 1664. established first quaker meeting in shrewsbury (now little silver) in 1665. meeting house built in 1672 visited george fox, founder of society of friends, same year. (this meeting house replaced present meeting house in 1816) of west jersey settled quakers established congregations , founded towns throughout region, including eponymous quakertown in 1744. among meeting houses built in colonial era are:
