inter 3 - hub has 3 speeds 36% intervals , overall gear range of 186%. weighs 1220 grams stripped in basic version (without built-in brake). other versions include coaster, roller or disk brake. starting around 2011 shimano offers model rotary shifting mechanism similar 1 developed inter 7 instead of push rod/bell crank mechanism.


auto 3 - hub fitted 3 speed automatic gear system, utilizes front hub dynamo power cpu automatically changes 3 speed internally geared hub. similar system built nexus 4.


inter 4 - nexus inter 4 hubs had 4 speeds, same 186% range inter 3. geared up, relatively large rear sprocket necessary give reasonable development when combined normal front sprocket. has been discontinued , spare parts have become hard source.


inter 5 - apparently in 2012 shimano has started making nexus inter 5 hubs. forum discussion contains link 1 of 2 parts lists @ shimano. range reportedly 0.75 1.545 total range of 206%. glance on web confirms: pricing seems near inter 3, availability in seems limited. shimano 2013-2014 products line-up chart shows japanese market.


inter 7 - inter 7 comes in 2 versions either steel or aluminium shell, weighing 1860 , 1460 grams respectively, latter more expensive yet relatively reasonably priced. gear mechanisms operated revo twist shifter or simple non-ratcheting trigger shifter , identical in 2 versions, offering range of 244% non-even interval percentages of 17,14,17,16,17,16.


inter 8 - inter 8 has interval percentages between gears of 22,16,14,18,22,16,14, , total range of 307%, comparable road bike derailleur gear systems, other nexus products, designed , intended urban commuter use. hub comes in variety of versions, weighing between 1550 , 2040 grams stripped. newest high end models internally similar alfine model. inter 8 more tolerant of shifting under load inter 7.
