Current developments Confiscation of Armenian properties in Turkey



numerous cemeteries served armenian community during ottoman empire. confiscated, 3 remain functioning today. 1 such example sabancı merkez mosque in adana, built on lands of confiscated armenian cemetery.


terminology of former legislation , civil codes have not changed since 1960s , 70s, subjugating assets , properties of armenian community further confiscations. though terminology has changed, current civil codes still have enough executive powers confiscate property under basis of protecting national unity of republic of turkey.



due such regulations , law codes, no church ever constructed in history of republic of turkey. churches in existence today built before establishment of republic in 1923. permit construction of syriac church granted in december 2012, however, refused assyrian community since land used latin cemetery.


in attempt ruling justice , development party (akp) comply european union standards, opening of ottoman land registry , deed records public considered. however, on 26 august 2005, national security committee of turkish armed forces forbid such attempts stating:
