linfield

roy coyle became player-manager of linfield in 1975. in first couple of years @ club, coyle got linfield irish cup final lost carrick rangers f.c. year later lost in irish cup final again, time coleraine f.c. following year. linfield board decided give coyle chance , decision proved 1 of best decisions ever made in irish league football. roy coyle won 31 trophies linfield , left club in 1990 after contract terminated.


derry city

coyle appointed manager of derry city in 1991. season before, manager of county down club ards resigned. coyle stayed 2 years , winning league of ireland cup. in 1993, coyle left , returned ards f.c.

coyle return county down side in 1993 , won 2 trophies. county antrim shield , irish league cup. coyle stayed @ club 4 years decided become manager of glentoran f.c.


glentoran

roy coyle shocked irish league becoming new manager of glentoran after sacking of tommy cassidy. though coyle played glentoran, took of fans while used him after managing bitter rivals linfield. coyle brought success had linfield , became glentoran s successful manager ever winning 16 trophies glentoran. in 2006, after winning league, glentoran started have string of poor results. fans started turn against coyle , players. away match armagh city f.c. saw glentoran crashing 5-2 defeat @ holm park. @ final whistle, glentoran fans booed players , coyle walked by, of fans nearby shouted coyle out! (in strange twist, happened former northern ireland captain alan mcdonald won league glentoran in 2009, next season, saw glentoran crash 6-0 home defeat coleraine f.c. , 2-0 away defeat dungannon swifts f.c. coyle resigned evening. replaced newry city manager paul millar.

coyle swapped clubs paul millar went glentoran s new manager. coyle stayed couple of months , decided retire. year later coyle linked move glenavon f.c. job went former cliftonville & coleraine manager marty quinn.


return glentoran

coyle returned glentoran club s director of football when scott young appointed new first team manager east belfast club. coyle took charge of team during glentoran s europa league qualifications while young completing coaching badges. on 14 january 2012, young resigned club, , coyle put in charge glentoran s game away ballymena united match glens won 3-0 in first game @ helm. coyle agreed caretaker manager @ club until appointed new manager. coyle in charge of first team duties until 22 february when former cliftonville manager eddie patterson appointed new glentoran manager. coyle returned duties director of football.


after eddie patterson sacked glentoran manager on 17 october 2015, coyle, still @ club in role director of football took reins caretaker manager once again whilst club searched new manager. in august 2016 when alan kernaghan resigned glentoran manager, coyle returned role of caretaker manager.
