zegama s main characteristic natural location last gipuzkoan town valley of river oria, close aizkorri-aratz natural park, in highest mountain in basque autonomous community can found, popular aizkorri summit (1,528 m), located @ same name mountain range towering on whole area. oria river, longest 1 in province of gipuzkoa, rises in several springs , corresponding streams flowing down dramatic slopes of valley merge in main stream before nucleus of town. southern otzaurte hamlet (ipa: /o tsaurte/) stands on dividing line of waters running onto mediterranean watershed , flowing north atlantic through oria river.


the historic way of st james, namely stretch called tunnel route, passes through town, municipality , park since middle ages. pilgrims exit town heading south slopes, reaching san adrian tunnel after 5 km, backpackers , hikers may gain access plains of alava, urbia fields or summits of rugged aizkorri mountain range.
