windhoek, capital , biggest city, main entrance point people flying country, @ windhoek hosea kutako international airport, main hub air namibia. important tourist sites in windhoek include: tintenpalast, (which seat of both national council , national assembly), windhoek country club resort (opened in 1995 host miss universe 1995 , 1 of premier hotels , golf tournaments in country), zoo park , other places. windhoek has first 5 star hotel in country known hilton windhoek (opened in 2011 marking hiltons 50th hotel in middle east , africa.)[1]

walvis bay, fourth biggest town in namibia, host main port of country, walvis bay international airport. geographically town uniquely situated, meeting place of extreme landscapes – on 1 side namib desert, oldest desert in world, , on other side massive lagoon , harbor flowing atlantic ocean. both of these landscapes lend towards of unusual sight-seeing opportunities in namibia.


the lagoon , harbour home various species , large numbers of sea mammals , bird life. namib desert on other side called living desert , because of large number of living species found there.


walvis bay 1 of many tourism activity centers of namibia. activities include various water-related actions, shore angling, boat angling, shark angling, sight seeing , photographic boat cruises, sea kayaking , wind- , kite surfing. walvis bay yearly houses 1 of international legs of speed kite , wind surfing.


land activities include sandwich harbour sightseeing tours, desert sightseeing tours, 4x4 dune driving tours massive dunes south of kuiseb river, dune hang gliding, dune boarding , dune skiing, guided educational, historic , anthropologic quad biking tours kuiseb delta, visits topnaar people, descendants of khoin-khoin, , living desert tours.


swakopmund

swakopmund beach resort , example of german colonial architecture. founded in 1892 main harbour german south-west africa. attractions include spectacular sand dunes near langstrand south of swakop river. city known extreme sports. nearby farm offers camel rides tourists , martin luther steam locomotive, dating 1896 , abandoned in desert.


the desert express, transnamib tourist train, runs between windhoek , swakopmund.


the swakopmund skydiving club has operated swakopmund airport since 1974.

in november 2012, namibian government approved renaming of sperrgebiet national park tsau ǁkhaeb (sperrgebiet) national park. tsau ǁkhaeb derives local nama language , means deep sandy soils .


kaokoveld

koakoveld (also known kaokoland ), remains 1 of country s pristine regions. puros lodge , okahirongo elephant lodge offer accommodation in area regularly visited desert elephants.


extreme sports

namibia s harsh climate , arid conditions make country top spot different extreme sport events desert runs , ultra-triathlons.


one such event, 2009 250 km racingtheplanet: namibia ultramarathon through fish river canyon, across namib desert, , along skeleton coast lüderitz had 213 runners 38 countries start 7-day, 6-stage race , 167 finish.
