historically concentration of industry in area has led pollution of air, bay , higher incidence of cancer in surrounding communities. in response, since late 2000s decade israeli environment protection ministry, in conjunction area industries, have implemented comprehensive pollution reduction, monitoring , reporting programme region. effort, major plants in region switching using heavy fuels natural gas primary fuel source starting in 2013 has led significant reduction in air pollution. ministry estimates between 2009 , 2014 overall air pollution in bay area has been reduced 70%, though overall concentration of heavy industry in area means air pollution still higher compared other regions in israel.
