red hair ranges light strawberry blond shades titian, copper , less commonly true red. caused variation in mc1r gene , recessive. red hair has highest amounts of pheomelanin, around 67%, , low levels of eumelanin. @ 1–2% of population, least common hair color in world. prominently found in british isles. scotland has highest proportion of redheads; 13 percent of population has red hair , approximately 40 percent carries recessive redhead gene.
