the grand prix updated 2004 on revised version of gm w platform , unveiled @ 2002 chicago auto show on february 7, 2002 grand prix g-force concept. series production version unveiled @ los angeles international auto show on january 3, 2003. grand prix came in 4 different option groups; gt1, gt2, gtp, , gtp comp-g ( competition group ).
the gt1 , fancier gt2 have series iii 3800 v6 engine, putting out 200 hp (150 kw) , 230 lb·ft (310 nm) of torque, while both gtps have supercharged (eaton gen 5 supercharger) 3800 series iii v6 engine 260 hp (195 kw) , 280 lb·ft (380 nm) of torque.
a competition group (comp-g) package available gtp included red painted brake calipers (same brakes standard gtp), sport tuned suspension, heads-up display (also in gt2 model), 4-speed automatic transmission paddle-style tapshift, stabilitrak dynamic control system, 3.29 axle ratio, performance tires , magnasteer ii. also, 10-spoke light weight wheel standard comp-g package upgraded gtp optional wheel.
the newly redesigned model received positive reviews critics regarding distinctive styling, performance, , reliability. commencing generation, 2-door coupe version of grand prix no longer available body style. timing of disappearance of grand prix coupe coincided gm s reintroduction of 2-door pontiac gto. grand prix came head-up display.
a 2004 pontiac grand prix gt2 special edition offered in limited supply, model included special chrome spoke wheels, heated leather seats, monsoon sound system, , heads-up display. special edition has pontiac se name badging on side of car behind front wheels.
2005
2005 pontiac grand prix gxp
the grand prix remained unchanged 2004. base sedan, gt, gtp, , new gxp. base model , gt had naturally aspirated 3.8 l v6, gtp having 3.8 l v6 supercharger. comp-g package still available gtp added door emblem denoting comp-g package. when gxp debuted later in 2005 model year, competition group dropped, several features retained in sport package available on gtp rest of model year.
the gxp powerplant ls4 v8, 5.3 l displacement on demand (active fuel management) engine based on ls1 block. output of version 303 hp (226 kw)/323 lb·ft (438 n·m). has shortened crankshaft, , host of other modifications make fit front-wheel-drive vehicle. gxp has 4-speed automatic transmission paddle-style tapshift, heads-up display, vented cross drilled brakes pbr calipers, performance tuned suspension bilstein gas-charged struts (sits 9 mm (0.4 in) lower other gp models), magnasteer ii, , stabilitrak dynamic control system. also, dic display g-force (maximum achieved lateral, acceleration, , deceleration) information when car not moving. cosmetically, gxp differs other models more aggressive bodywork including different front clip, wheel cooling vents on front fenders, different rear bumper, , twin-dual polished exhaust. grand prix gxp offers unique feature of different-width 18 in (46 cm) polished alcoa forged aluminum wheels. front wheels 8 in (200 mm) wide, , rear wheels 7 in (180 mm) wide.
2006
for 2006, special edition body package added came same colored grille, new front , rear diffuser type bumpers, lower side skirts, , wheels. 3 options grand prix, powered 3800 series iii v6, gt, powered 3800 series iii supercharged v6, , gxp, powered ls4 v8. gtp designation discontinued grand prix line , applied top trim of g6. general motors 3.8 l buick v6 powered cars become first sulev compliant vehicles. model year gave car s final update adding gm badges near front doors until grand prix pulled pontiac s lineup after 2008.
2007
for 2007 model year model remained base, gt, , gxp. also, active displacement management capability on 5.3 l v8 (gxp) renamed active fuel management displacement on demand , while gxp trim includes 303 hp (226 kw) v8 engine firmer suspension, performance tires, heated leather seats, heads-up display, , 18-inch (460 mm) wheels.
2008
2008 pontiac grand prix s last year sedan. 2008, pontiac did not offer gt trim, continued offer both base , gxp trim. base trim offered 200 hp (150 kw) v6 engine , 16 in (41 cm) wheels. several new colors added 2008 model year. last pontiac grand prix rolled off assembly line on april 24, 2008.
the pontiac grand prix replaced g8 2008–2009 model year. production of larger g8, however, ended in june 2009. pontiac brand dissolved in 2010 part of gm s chapter 11 reorganization.
