early career

born 11 may 1974 in strabane, county tyrone, northern ireland, gillespie made debut ireland on 6 june 1995 against duchess of norfolk s xi @ arundel castle. played following day against mcc @ lord s. later in month, made list debut against yorkshire in natwest trophy. represented ireland in triple crown tournament following month. played twice ireland in 1996, benson & hedges cup match against gloucestershire in may , first-class debut against scotland in august.

1997 icc trophy

gillespie named in ireland squad 1997 icc trophy , played in 9 matches. in second round match against hong kong, took 3/42, best bowling figures in matches ireland.

1997 1999

gillespie played 2 more games ireland in 1997, both benson & hedges cup games, against middlesex , glamorgan. in 1998, began become more regular fixture in irish side. year, played against mcc, bangladesh, natwest trophy match against warwickshire, south africa (twice) , australia in addition triple crown , european championship. represented northern ireland in cricket tournament @ 1998 commonwealth games, time date cricket has featured in commonwealth games.

the following year, played first-class matches against south africa academy , scotland , again played in triple crown.

2000 2004

the 21st century started peter gillespie trip zimbabwe play in icc emerging nations tournament, highlighted innings of 74 against denmark. year played against mcc, zimbabwe , in european championship.

he not selected ireland squad 2001 icc trophy, came side in august, playing in triple crown , in c & g trophy against wiltshire , hampshire cricket board. won man of match award innings of 66 in match against wiltshire.

2002 started c & g trophy match against nottinghamshire , continued match against west indies in scored 88, highest score ireland @ time, again picking man of match award. played in european championship , against mcc , berkshire.

2003 busy year, matches against zimbabwe, south africa, mcc, free foresters , hertfordshire, amongst others. in 2004, played in ireland s famous wins on surrey in c & g trophy, ireland s second win on first-class county , west indies, ireland s third win on west indies., playing in european championship, 2 matches against bangladesh, once against mcc , icc intercontinental cup games against scotland , netherlands.

2005 icc trophy

gillespie named in ireland squad 2005 icc trophy , warmed first century ireland, scoring 102 not out against mcc in june. played in 5 matches in tournament itself, without success until semi-final against canada, scored 64 not out lead ireland final, winning man of match award in process.

also in 2005, played against loughborough ucce, warwickshire , yorkshire, in addition playing in intercontinental cup games against netherlands, scotland, uae , final against kenya, ireland won.

2006 , onwards

2006 saw ireland gain 1 day international status, , gillespie played in first 3 of ireland s such games against england, scotland , netherlands. did not meet success in games however, being dismissed duck in each of them. interestingly, first match saw him dismissed on third ball, second on second ball, , third on first ball.

that year, played in 9 of ireland s c & g trophy games, against mcc, in european championship , intercontinental cup games against scotland , namibia.

he named in ireland s squad division 1 of world cricket league in january/february 2007, played in match against kenya. played in intercontinental cup game against uae before being named in ireland s squad 2007 world cup.

he did not play in ireland s first round matches beat pakistan , tied against zimbabwe reach super 8 stage, , missed first 2 matches in stage before playing in third match against new zealand.
