the agusta bell ab 47g on display @ gianni caproni museum of aeronautics 1 of 1,000 built italian company agusta. in 1946, bell 47 became first helicopter certified civilian use; produced in great numbers , operated worldwide multirole helicopter, besides being built under licence in several countries. helicopter donated museum in 1988.

the ansaldo a.1 balilla italian fighter biplane introduced in final weeks of world war i. aircraft on display @ museum belonged captain natale palli, pilot had flown gabriele d annunzio on vienna in two-seater s.v.a. during famous propaganda raid. 1 of 2 surviving ansaldo a.1s, , 1 original silk fabric preserved undamaged; notably, image of saint george killing dragon painted on right side of fuselage.

the caproni ca.6, sixth airplane built gianni caproni, pioneering biplane featured innovative variable-pitch propeller (the pitch of blades, however, adjusted on ground) , unusual double-cambered airfoil. latter suggested caproni friend , colleague, henri coandă, proved unsuccessful. caproni ca.6 on display @ museum aircraft of type have been produced, , oldest aircraft in collection, dating 1911. because of structural fragility , lack of information, such plans or drawings details of aircraft s original construction, did not undergo restoration. caproni ca.6 did, however, go through conservation treatment.

the caproni ca.60 transaereo, huge, nine-winged, eight-engine flying boat, conceived 100-passenger transatlantic airliner, tested without success in 1921. flew twice, crashing @ end of second flight, resulting in serious damage. no further tests carried out, , of aircraft s airframe structure lost. surviving parts (the 2 side floats, front section of main, central hull, 1 of liberty l-12 engines , control panel) on display @ gianni caproni museum of aeronautics, have been moved in 2011.

at time of studies in munich, liège , paris, gianni caproni developed great interest in fine arts. time before 1910, although interest in painting , sculpture intense, decided aviation become focus of professional activity. caproni, however, didn t lose artistic sensibility had acquired influences of mitteleuropean secessions , avant-garde movements.
in 1910s, caproni came in contact number of artists, whom had close personal relations. when financial situation improved aeronautical company became more established , recognized both commercial , technological success, started supporting them , commissioning artwork – acting actual patron of arts. case, example, italian artist luigi bonazza; employed in caproni s technical drawing office in 1915, , later able produce notable artwork in jugendstil decorativism combined themes , subjects typical of technical drawing.
