scotty s castle road first appears unimproved county road in 1932 edition of state highway map, connecting state route 5 (now 95) death valley via town of bonnie claire. road designated state route 72 1942, , had been paved 1952.


state route 267 assigned former sr 72 on july 1, 1976. change first appeared on official state maps in 1978.
