after prohibition ended, heirs of henry jr. kept griesedieck brothers while heirs of papa joe ran falstaff. starting in 1947, griesedieck brothers sponsored st. louis cardinals radio broadcasts harry caray until anheuser-busch brewery bought team in 1953. shortly after anheuser-busch bought team, renamed sportsman s park busch stadium , introduced busch beer. new beer sold @ new low prices , dug griesedieck brothers sales.


when edward griesedieck, last remaining original griesedieck brother died in 1955, company looked @ options. in 1957, griesedieck brothers sold cousins @ falstaff , production under gb name stopped overnight. griesedieck brewery, @ point, updated brewery in nation, production on 1,000,000 barrels per year. falstaff moved production former gb plant.


falstaff s peak production year 1966 @ 6,000,000 barrels, declining thereafter. when falstaff got hit court costs involving acquisition of narragansett beer, company had sell. paul kalmanovitz purchased company in 1975 , moved headquarters california. 1977, old gb plant closed down. through various mergers , acquisitions, pabst brewing company acquired falstaff brand, quit production in 2005.
