taekwondo blocks known makgi used stop , deflect incoming attack. engage various parts of arm hand , held in different positions such knife-hand, closed fist etc. each block suitable particular kind of attack , may combined punch or kick make counter-attack.
single forearm block - wae sun palmok used deflect attack (usually kick) made @ torso. starting near opposite shoulder,and leading hand projected down , across body deflect kick forearm.
low block - najundi makgi used defend against low attacks torso or legs. 1 of basic taekwondo blocks , 1 of first things beginner learn. lead forearm bent , raised shoulder height, snapping arm down straight palm facing ground, blocks incoming low kicks.
rising block - chookya makgi basic taekwondo block, used defend against overhead attacks head , shoulders. arm bent , raised above head, , underside of forearm absorbs impact of blow, may painful better connecting head or delicate clavicle. block used defend against hammerfists, axe kicks , overhead strikes blunt instruments.
palm block - sonbadak naeryo makgi standard block used deflect incoming kicks , punches. open hand raised shoulder height , thrust directly down meet attackers limb. heel of hand makes contact attacker’s forearm in case of punch, or shin in case of kick. although simple, requires lot of partner training timing of taekwondo block correct.
knife hand block - hand kept in knife hand position block attacks torso. front arms sweeps down in arc inside outside of body, hand simultaneously pulled back hip , ready counter punch.
double forearm block - more advanced taekwondo block, designed used against strong attack center of body. standing sideways, lead forearm blocks attack fist closed. second arm provides further support, linking crook of arm both forearms @ 90 degree angle body.
double knife hand block - hands held open in knife hand position, powerful kick aimed @ solar plexus can blocked. both hands come across body, intersecting @ forearms , providing firm defence.
nine block - black belt leveled block , first time used around black belt form.the person blocks chest 1 hand , stomach region other.the shape of block forms number 9 when executed correctly.both arms bent @ 45 degree angle , leaves little space open in mid region of defenders body.your hand when move executed correctly should above groin on bottom , next opposite shoulder top hand.
upper block - known ulgul makgi. 1 using block first keeps fist sideways @ stomach or torso. rise fist head, deflecting attack. attack made @ upper part of body blocked if timed correctly using block.
