contra force planned released in japan under title of arc hound in 1991 , did not have ties contra series. game announced in magazines such famicom tsūshin , advertised in official konami brochures scheduled october release, version of game canceled.


despite cancellation of arc hound in japan, game still localized north american market spinoff of contra series. scheduled winter 1991 release, contra force announced third console game in series, being released sometime prior contra iii: alien wars (known contra iv @ time). however, contra force delayed late 1992 release, few months later contra iii, causing latter game renumbered prior release.
