the university of michigan s campus housing system can accommodate approximately 10,000 students, or 25 percent of total student population @ university. residence halls located in 3 distinct geographic areas on campus: central campus, hill area (between central campus , university of michigan medical center) , north campus. family housing located on north campus , serves graduate students. largest residence hall has capacity of 1,270 students, while smallest accommodates 25 residents. majority of upper-division , graduate students live in off-campus apartments, houses, , cooperatives, largest concentrations in central , south campus areas.
the residential system has number of living-learning communities academic activities , residential life combined. these communities focus on areas such research through michigan research community, medical sciences, community service , german language. michigan research community , women in science , engineering residence program housed in mosher-jordan hall. residential college (rc), living-learning community division of college of literature, science , arts, has principal instructional space in east quad. michigan community scholars program, dedicated civic engagement, community service learning , intercultural understanding , dialogue, located in west quad. lloyd hall scholars program (lhsp) located in alice lloyd hall. health sciences scholars program (hssp) located in couzens hall. north quad complex houses 2 additional living-learning communities: global scholars program , max kade german program. technology-rich, , houses communication-related programs, including school of information, department of communication studies, , department of screen arts , cultures. north quad home services such language resource center , sweetland center writing.
